California Mediation/Arbitration Lawyers

Family Law Mediators in California

Going through a divorce or separation is hard enough. The last thing you need is to encourage animosity and hatred by seeking revenge on the other party through hotly litigated divorce battles. Mediation, arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) can be a healthy alternative.

At the Law Offices of Russo & Prince, our attorneys are experienced in mediation, arbitration and collaborative law approaches designed to help parties work together toward a family law solution, rather than arguing about in family court. We keep the focus on what is best for the family as a whole.

This approach has several benefits over traditional divorce litigation:

  • Mediation and arbitration is often cheaper than going to family court.
  • Mediation allows parents to find a resolution to a child custody matter, rather than leaving it in the hands of a judge who knows little about your family and children.
  • Parents work together, forming the foundation for future family law negotiations.
  • The best interests of all the parties are considered.
  • Alternative dispute resolution methods often eliminate the "loser-winner" situations that occur in litigation. Instead, parties work together to create a win-win situation.

Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods

If you have decided that ADR is right for you, which method will best serve your needs and help you move forward? Mediation is commonly encouraged among separating couples who can sit down and talk about the issues at hand. The responsibility for finding a solution rests with the parties themselves. Their lawyers are there to act as guides.

Collaborative law is like mediation, except that if parties cannot work out a solution to one or all of their family law issues, then they must choose new counsel to represent them in litigation.

In arbitration, both parties present their arguments to a neutral third party who then decides on a resolution. The neutral party, or arbitrator, acts like a judge in this regard.

Attorney Brenda Russo Woolsey is a Certified Family Law Specialist in California with more than 20 years of legal experience. She will explain the methods of ADR in detail, and she will help you determine which option is best for your situation.
